Even a minor crash is stressful. Keep this list in your glovebox: each step protects your health and your right to compensation.
At the scene
- Call the police and ask for a report number
- Take photos of the cars, the road and any injuries
- Get the names and phone numbers of witnesses
- Do not apologise or guess at what happened
In the next 24 hours
- See a doctor, even if you feel fine
- Tell your insurer the basic facts only
- Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurer
- Write down everything you remember while it is fresh
Insurers often call within a day with a quick offer. Once you accept it, your claim is closed for good.
